Public sector banks hire clerks (customer service associates) and probationary officers through IBPS, and SBI runs its own exams. Clerks handle counter and branch work; POs become officers and later branch managers. Regional rural banks hire through IBPS RRB.

Any graduate. Clerk also needs to read, write and speak the official language of the state applied for.

IBPS Clerk 20-28; IBPS PO 20-30; SBI similar. OBC +3, SC/ST +5. Check the official notice

Pay

How to prepare

  • Speed matters most: practise sectional timed mocks daily.
  • Reasoning puzzles and data interpretation decide mains; start them early.
  • Read banking and financial news daily for general awareness.
  • For clerk, prepare for the local language test in the state you apply for.

Mistakes people make

  • Applying for a state whose language you cannot read and write.
  • Giving only full mocks and not analysing mistakes.
  • Missing the prelims cut-off by one section; each section has its own cut-off.
