The Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) helps drive trains and later becomes a Loco Pilot. Technicians maintain engines, coaches, signals and electrical systems in sheds and workshops. Both are for ITI and diploma holders.

Study

10th pass plus ITI in a notified trade (or course completed apprenticeship), or a diploma/degree in the listed engineering branches. Technician Grade I Signal needs B.Sc or diploma in specified subjects.

Age

ALP 18-30; Technician Grade III 18-30; Technician Grade I Signal 18-33. OBC-NCL +3, SC/ST +5. Check the official notice

ALP needs the A-1 medical standard (strict eyesight, no glasses beyond limits, colour vision).

How selection works

Pay

ALP: Level 2 (starting basic Rs 19,900). Technician Grade III: Level 2 (Rs 19,900). Technician Grade I Signal: Level 5 (Rs 29,200). ↗

How to prepare

  • Revise your ITI trade theory thoroughly; CBT 2 Part B is trade-based and qualifying.
  • Basic science and engineering drawing carry marks; revise class 10 science.
  • For ALP, practise the psycho (aptitude) test: memory, depth perception, concentration.
  • Get a full eye test before applying for ALP.

Mistakes people make

  • Applying for ALP without meeting A-1 eyesight.
  • ITI trade not in the notified list for the post.
  • Thinking CBT 2 Part B only needs to be passed and ignoring Part A, which decides merit.
