Production Supervisor
A Production Supervisor in the automotive industry oversees daily shop-floor manufacturing, managing assembly lines, coordinating workers, and ensuring vehicles or components are built safely, on time, and to quality standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Shop-Floor Management
- Supervise daily operations across assembly, machining, welding, or painting lines.
Manpower & Shift Planning: Allocate operators, manage shift schedules (including rotating or night shifts), and conduct shift-start huddles to communicate targets.
Quality Control: Monitor production output, inspect parts against specifications, and support root-cause analysis (such as 8D or 7QC tools) for defects.
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), workplace safety protocols, and 5S housekeeping standards.
Efficiency & Continuous Improvement: Track Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), minimize downtime, and drive Lean, Kaizen, or Six Sigma improvements.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Materials/PPC, and Logistics teams to clear bottlenecks.
Key Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Production, Mechatronics, or Automobile Engineering (preferred by most OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers).
- Experience
- Typically 2 to 5+ years of shop-floor supervisory experience in automotive manufacturing or component assembly.
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of automotive processes (stamping, welding, injection moldings, or line assembly) and quality frameworks like IATF 16949.
- Core Skills
- People leadership, problem-solving, basic data/computer literacy (MS Office, or ERP/SAP systems), and time management.

- In-person factory/plant setting, frequently operating in rotational or day/night shifts.
Salary Range (India): Generally ranges from ₹20,000 to ₹35,000+ per month for standard supervisory roles, scaling higher for senior or specialized tier-1 positions.
