Tracheotomy home care

• Keep the tracheostomy tube clean and ensure it remains securely in place.
• Provide regular tracheostomy suctioning as instructed by the healthcare team.
• Maintain proper humidification and adequate hydration to prevent thick secretions.
• Clean and change the tracheostomy dressing as recommended.
• Monitor breathing, oxygen saturation, secretions, and signs of infection.
• Ensure emergency equipment, such as a spare tube and suction device, is readily available.
• Give prescribed medicines and treatments on time.
• Maintain good hand hygiene before and after tracheostomy care.
• Educate the patient and family about safe tracheostomy care and emergency procedures.
• Contact the healthcare provider immediately if there is difficulty breathing, tube blockage/displacement, bleeding, or severe infection.
