About this job

About the opportunity

We are hiring a Director, Public Health Systems to take a proven hospital quality programme and make it run on its own. The programme helps private and public hospitals improve the quality of care they offer.

It has grown across India, and government partners are now on board. The next phase is to make the programme independent and self-funded, and to grow it several times over.

The role

This is a role for a builder. The model works and has been tested at scale. It now needs someone to move it from donor funding to self-sustaining.

You will set up and grow multiple independent entities to run the programme, each built to pay for itself. That means designing their structure, governance and revenue, putting the right teams in place, and mentoring their leaders for two to three years until each one runs without outside support. As the model spreads to new states and, over time, other countries, you will build the next ones.

We need someone who gets things done, not someone who only advises. The direction is largely clear, and the work now is in making it happen.

Key responsibilities

Set up multiple independent entities to run the programme, and build the revenue models that make each one self-funded.

Grow the programme across medical institutions and states, and repeat the model in new geographies over time.

Build and manage relationships with medical institutions, government and other key partners.

Lead a team of 20 people directly and coordinate 50 people across partners.

Put leadership teams in place for each entity and mentor them until they can run on their own, within two to three years.

What you will bring

These are essential for the role

Leadership
you have led large teams and worked through partners you don't manage directly, at a senior level.

Networks in the healthcare ecosystem: you have strong, working relationships with doctors and medical associations, hospital accreditation and quality bodies, and government health systems. You can pick up the phone and get a meeting.

Experience building something: you have set up a business, a new unit or an independent entity and made it financially sustainable. You understand revenue, pricing, governance and what it takes to hand something over to others.

A record of getting things done: you have delivered results on the ground, not only designed the strategy. We will look for this clearly in references.

Education
an MBA or equivalent, with solid healthcare experience.

Comfort with travel and senior stakeholders: you are at ease travelling often and presenting the work to senior doctors, regulators and government.

We welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds. These include pharma and medical affairs, healthcare consulting, hospital networks, professional and industry associations, government advisory, and also the development sector. What matters most is that you combine the networks, the builder's mindset and a record of getting things done.

Location, compensation and terms

Location
remote within India, with frequent travel.
Compensation
₹35–40 LPA, based on experience and seniority.
Contract
a one-year contract, renewed as the work grows. However, this work would require a commitment of 5-7 years to build.
