Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fiber Optic Cable (FOC) Technician to join our technical operations team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber optic cable systems and infrastructure. You will work on outer plant (OSP) and premises/building installations, ensuring high-speed network connections and low-loss splices. Preference will be given to candidates with prior Gulf/GCC telecom experience.

Key ResponsibilitiesCable Installation & Laying

Pull, route, and lay fiber optic cables across underground ducts, aerial routes, and interior building conduits.

Prepare, dress, and secure fiber cables, patch panels, splice trays, and optical distribution frames (ODF).

Follow safety regulations and site specifications for line pulling, tension control, and bending radius limits.

Splicing & Termination

Perform fusion and mechanical splicing on single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables.

Terminate fiber ends with various connectors (SC, LC, ST, FC).

Assemble and seal mid-span joints, splice closures, and enclosure boxes for outdoor environments.

Testing & Maintenance

Conduct optical power loss measurements using Optical Loss Test Sets (OLTS) and Light Source Power Meters (LSPM).

Perform Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) traces to detect cable faults, bends, high-loss points, and breaks.

Document splice plans, OTDR test results, and loss budgets for project handovers.

Troubleshooting & Repair

Respond to fiber cuts, network outages, and signal degradation in a timely manner.

Locate and repair damaged fiber cables, blown fuses, or faulty terminations in outdoor and indoor setups.

Perform preventive maintenance checks on existing telecom lines and distribution boxes.

Required Technical Skills & Competencies

Fusion Splicing

Proficiency in precision core-alignment fusion splicing with minimal signal attenuation/loss.

Reflectometry & OTDR Analysis

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret OTDR trace graphs to pinpoint fiber disruptions.

Blueprints & Color Coding

Deep familiarity with standard TIA/EIA 598-C fiber color-coding schemes and site layout schematics.

Physical Stamina & Safety: Ability to work in outdoor conditions, handle ladders/elevated platforms, and adhere strictly to electrical/telecom site safety practices.
