Manual VTL Or Vertical Turning Lathe

A Manual VTL (Vertical Turning Lathe) Operator sets up, operates, and monitors conventional vertical turning machines to shape large, heavy, or complex metal components.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Machine Setup: Mount, align, and securely clamp large workpieces onto the vertical rotating table using chucks, fixtures, or special jigs.
• Machining Operations: Manually operate VTL controls to perform turning, facing, boring, grooving, tapering, and threading operations.
• Blueprint \& Drawing Interpretation: Read and interpret technical engineering drawings, blueprints, process travelers, and GD\&T symbols to determine part dimensions and sequences.
• Tooling Selection: Choose, install, and adjust appropriate cutting tools, inserts, and holders, managing feed rates and cutting speeds manually.
• Quality Inspection: Check dimensions and tolerances during and after machining using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, dial gauges, and pie tapes.
• Material Handling: Utilize overhead cranes, hoists, or forklifts to safely load and unload heavy raw materials and finished parts.
• Maintenance \& Safety: Perform routine daily machine cleaning, lubrication, basic tool maintenance, and adhere strictly to shop safety and ISO standards.

Required Qualifications \& Skills

• Education: ITI, Diploma, or 10th/12th pass with formal vocational training in Mechanical Engineering, Machinist, or Fitter trades.
• Experience: Generally 2 to 5+ years of hands-on experience operating manual or conventional VTL / large lathe machines.
• Technical Skills
• Strong mechanical aptitude and spatial awareness.
• Proficiency in manual metal-cutting mechanics, speeds, and feeds.
• Ability to read complex technical blueprints and use precision inspection tools.
• Physical \& Work Environment: Ability to stand for long shifts, work in industrial shop-floor environments with noise and heavy machinery, and lift or rig heavy components.

Pay

₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
