STEM Coordinator

Makkala Jagriti is a non-profit organization dedicated to enabling access to quality education and holistic development for children and youth from marginalized communities across Karnataka. Through its Community Learning Centres, Makkala Jagriti creates safe and inclusive spaces in underserved urban communities of Bengaluru, where children receive holistic learning opportunities and are encouraged to unleash their potential. Role Purpose The STEM \& Academic Enrichment Coordinator will strengthen STEM learning, conceptual understanding, and academic support systems in the Community learning centres. The role focuses on improving children’s understanding in Science and Math, strengthening makerspace and project-based learning practices, supporting facilitators and volunteers, and creating meaningful exposure and career-learning opportunities, for children in the age group of 6 years to 16 years. Key Roles \& Responsibilities 1. Planning and Assessments ● Create weekly and monthly STEM and academic support plans across centers. ● Conduct assessments and track children’s conceptual understanding and academic progress. ● Identify learning gaps and create targeted support strategies. ● Create simple STEM learning resources and session plans. 2. STEM \& Academic Learning ● Oversee STEM and makerspace curriculum implementation across all centers. ● Develop and support inquiry-based and hands-on learning practices. ● Mentor facilitators in STEM facilitation and concept-teaching methodologies. ● Model effective facilitation practices during center visits. ● Identify children requiring additional support and children with strong STEM potential. ● Lead project-based learning clubs and guide children in continuing projects independently. ● Introduce children to STEM careers, pathways, and real-world applications. ● Design academic support plans based on children’s learning levels and school requirements. ● Facilitate weekly Science and Math sessions in the learning centres. ● Provide practice work, assignments, and revision support for children. ● Oversee academic support implementation across centres and maintain documentation and progress records. ● Strengthen conceptual understanding, peer learning, problem-solving, and academic performance. 3. Volunteer \& Exposure Support ● Coordinate with volunteers, mentors, interns, and resource persons for academic and STEM engagement. ● Build partnerships with colleges, professionals, and STEM practitioners where possible. ● Organize STEM exposure visits, workshops, and career-awareness opportunities; enable opportunities for competitive exams, scholarships and fellowships. Desired Skills \& Qualities ● Strong understanding of Science and Math concepts (Grades 6–10 level) ● Ability to explain concepts in simple and engaging ways ● Interest in STEM, makerspace, and experiential learning ● Strong facilitation and child engagement skills ● Planning, coordination, and tracking abilities ● Ability to mentor facilitators and volunteers supportively ● Creativity, initiative, and problem-solving mindset ● Passion for working with children and with communities Eligibility Criteria ● Minimum 2–3 years of experience in facilitating STEM sessions ● Diploma or Graduation in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Education, or related fields ● Willingness to work in marginalized communities and travel to community centres across Bengaluru ● Patience, positive attitude, and interest in working with children ● Strong communication and documentation skills ● Ability to work independently while also being an effective team player ● High ethical standards, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility ● Working knowledge of English and Kannada is essential To Apply Send your resume and a note on what drives you to take up this role to: hrmj@makkalajagriti.org
