Civil Engineer
Design Review & Technical Validation • Review architectural, civil and structural drawings, design calculations, specifications and engineering deliverables submitted by external consultants. • Verify design adequacy, dimensional accuracy, technical compliance, constructability and consistency across drawings. • Review foundation layouts, RCC/structural steel details, reinforcement drawings, building layouts, grading, drainage and related civil works. • Identify discrepancies, missing details, design conflicts and potential execution challenges before drawings are released for construction. • Evaluate proposed design modifications, site deviations and alternative engineering solutions in coordination with specialist structural designers. • Ensure designs comply with applicable IS codes, NBC requirements, statutory provisions and company engineering standards. 2. Consultant Management & Design Coordination • Develop comprehensive and technically clear design briefs, scope documents and input requirements for external consultants. • Review and validate complete design dockets for accuracy, completeness and alignment with project requirements. • Coordinate with architectural, structural, MEP, plumbing and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated design deliverables. • Resolve technical queries, challenge consultant recommendations where required and drive timely closure of design comments. • Monitor design deliverables against agreed schedules and ensure timely release of technically acceptable drawings. 3. Schedule of Quantities (SoQ), Specifications & Cost Optimisation • Review and validate Schedules of Quantities (SoQ)/Bills of Quantities (BOQ), material specifications and technical scope documents. • Check quantities against drawings, verify measurement accuracy and identify omissions, duplication and inconsistencies. • Evaluate design alternatives for material efficiency, value engineering, cost optimisation and ease of construction without compromising safety, functionality or quality. • Provide technical inputs for tender specifications, contractor queries, variations and engineering proposals. 4. Constructability & Site Engineering Support • Apply practical site-execution experience to assess construction methodology, sequencing, feasibility and execution risks. • Review site-specific constraints, foundation conditions, drainage requirements, levels, utility interfaces and structural modifications. • Provide technical guidance to project execution teams and resolve design-related site queries. • Review proposed deviations from approved drawings and recommend technically sound solutions. • Incorporate lessons learned from site execution into design improvements and standardisation. 5. Engineering Standardisation & Quality Assurance • Support development and improvement of standard drawings, design specifications, technical checklists and engineering documentation. • Establish systematic design-review practices to minimise errors, rework, design revisions and site-level ambiguities. • Contribute to continuous improvement in engineering quality, turnaround time, constructability and design efficiency. Required Experience & Competencies Mandatory Requirements • Minimum 7–8 years of relevant civil engineering experience, preferably 8–12 years. • At least 2–3 years of hands-on civil construction/site execution experience, followed by substantial experience in design engineering, design review or design coordination. • Experience in commercial, industrial, institutional, retail or infrastructure building projects. • Strong understanding of RCC construction, foundations, structural steel, masonry, waterproofing, grading, drainage, finishing works and associated civil engineering systems. • Demonstrated ability to review and interpret architectural and structural drawings, reinforcement details, design calculations and engineering specifications. • Experience reviewing BOQs/SoQs, specifications and multidisciplinary design packages. • Working knowledge of relevant Indian Standards, NBC and accepted engineering practices. • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel and engineering documentation/review workflows. • Ability to independently identify design issues, evaluate technical proposals and provide practical engineering recommendations. • Strong coordination, analytical, problem-solving and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications / Experience • Prior experience in an engineering design consultancy, EPC organisation, developer's engineering team or technical design-management function. • Exposure to retail infrastructure, commercial buildings, fuel retail outlets, convenience stores or prefabricated/PEB structures. • Familiarity with structural design tools such as STAAD.Pro or ETABS and the ability to critically review structural analysis outputs. • Experience in standardisation, value engineering, consultant performance management and design-quality assurance. • PG in Structural Engineering
