Functional Responsibilities
- Supervision & Operations Management
- Oversee and guide the work of pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, and support staff.
- Supervise dispensing activities for IPD, OPD, and satellite pharmacies to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Verify prescriptions for correctness, legality, and therapeutic appropriateness before dispensing.
- Act as the in-charge in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager/Pharmacy Incharge.
- NABH Compliance & Quality Standards
- Ensure implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with NABH Medication Management & Use (MMU) standards.
- Monitor adherence to protocols for storage, handling, and disposal of medications.
- Oversee documentation and reporting of medication errors, near misses, and Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs).
- Participate actively in NABH internal audits, quality meetings, and Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee activities.
- Inventory & Stock Control
- Monitor inventory levels and initiate procurement requests for essential and life-saving medicines.
- Ensure FIFO (First In, First Out) and FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) practices.
- Oversee expiry checks, segregation, and disposal as per hospital policy.
- Supervise cold chain maintenance for temperature-sensitive medicines.
- Patient & Staff Support
- Provide medication counseling to patients and caregivers, especially for complex therapies.
- Assist doctors and nurses with information on drug availability, dosage, and interactions.
- Train and mentor junior pharmacists on clinical and operational protocols.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all pharmacy activities comply with the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, NDPS Act, and other applicable laws.
- Maintain proper records for narcotic and psychotropic drugs.
- Ensure pharmacy licenses and statutory documents are up to date.
- Emergency & Critical Care Support
- Ensure availability and prompt dispensing of emergency and crash cart medicines.
- Support emergency pharmacy operations during mass casualty situations or shortages.
