Job Purpose

The Senior Manager – Transportation Sourcing \& Vendor Management will be responsible for developing and executing the end-to-end sourcing strategy for surface transportation, including FTL, LTL, and last-mile operations across India.

The role will focus on transportation cost optimization, vendor localization, rate benchmarking, cost visibility, and vendor development by reducing dependency on brokers/aggregators and building a strong network of directly contracted local and regional transporters.

Key Responsibilities1. Sourcing Strategy \& Vendor Development

• Develop transportation sourcing strategies across India based on lanes, regions, vehicle types, and business requirements.
• Identify and onboard local and regional transporters, fleet owners, and owner-drivers.
• Build a strong primary, secondary, and backup vendor network for different lanes and clusters.
• Conduct market visits and engage with transport hubs, transporters, and industry networks.
• Reduce dependency on brokers/aggregators through direct vendor sourcing.

Cost Optimization \& Rate Management

• Conduct regular freight rate benchmarking and maintain lane-wise market rate intelligence.
• Negotiate freight rates, fuel/toll adjustments, detention charges, and commercial terms.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction through backhaul utilization, route consolidation, vehicle right-sizing, and multi-vendor bidding.
• Track and report monthly and quarterly transportation savings against targets.

Cost Visibility \& MIS

• Develop and maintain lane-wise, vendor-wise, and vehicle-category-wise rate cards and cost sheets.
• Prepare MIS and dashboards covering freight trends, cost per km/tonne, vendor mix, and savings.
• Work closely with Finance to identify billing discrepancies, rate deviations, and cost leakages.
• Analyze ERP/TMS data to identify high-cost lanes and vendor localization opportunities.

Vendor \& Contract Management

• Negotiate and finalize vendor contracts and SLAs covering rates, payment terms, liability, compliance, and performance.
• Monitor vendor performance based on placement, delivery, claims, service quality, and compliance.
• Conduct periodic vendor reviews and rate negotiations.
• Identify and replace consistently underperforming or high-cost vendors.
• Ensure vendors comply with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, including GST, permits, e-way bills, insurance, and driver documentation.

Stakeholder Management

• Coordinate with Operations, Finance, Sales, Control Tower, and Regional Teams to align sourcing decisions with business requirements.
• Present vendor localization, cost optimization, and savings reports to management.
• Guide and mentor Sourcing Executives and Regional Vendor Coordinators.
• Support the team in vendor negotiations, market mapping, and vendor governance.

Key Performance Indicators

• Reduction in transportation cost per km / tonne.
• Freight cost savings achieved against annual targets.
• Percentage of freight volume shifted from brokers/aggregators to direct vendors.
• Rate-card and cost-dashboard coverage across active lanes.
• Vendor network diversification and backup coverage.
• Vehicle placement and capacity utilization.
• Vendor compliance and performance.
• Reduction in transportation cost leakages.

Qualifications \& Experience

• Graduate in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
• MBA/PGDM in Operations or Supply Chain Management will be preferred.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in transportation sourcing, freight procurement, logistics vendor management, or a similar role.
• Strong experience in vendor localization and transportation cost reduction.
• Hands-on experience managing multi-state or pan-India transportation vendor networks.
• Experience in 3PL, logistics, courier, freight, manufacturing, FMCG, or transportation industries will be preferred.

Additional Requirements

• Strong knowledge of the Indian transportation market, regional transporter networks, freight corridors, and local fleet markets.
• Strong commercial negotiation and analytical skills.
• Ability to build and manage long-term vendor relationships.
• Willingness to travel extensively across different regions for vendor sourcing, market visits, audits, and negotiations.
