Job Description – Senior Registrar, Cardiac Anaesthesia

Key Responsibilities

Conduct pre-anaesthetic assessment and optimization of patients undergoing cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery.

Provide anaesthesia for

CABG and valve replacement/repair procedures

Aortic and other major cardiothoracic surgeries

Congenital cardiac procedures, as applicable

Emergency and high-risk cardiac procedures

Manage intraoperative haemodynamics using advanced monitoring techniques, including arterial and central venous monitoring and, where indicated, pulmonary artery catheterization and TEE.

Assist with management of cardiopulmonary bypass, including initiation, maintenance and separation from bypass, in coordination with the cardiac surgical and perfusion teams.

Manage difficult airway, major bleeding, coagulation abnormalities, arrhythmias and perioperative cardiovascular instability.

Provide postoperative care in the cardiac surgical ICU, including mechanical ventilation, vasoactive/inotropic support and haemodynamic optimization.

Participate in emergency cardiac and resuscitation services, including ACLS/CPR.

Assist with perioperative TEE and other advanced cardiac monitoring, according to training and competency.

Participate in multidisciplinary discussions with cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, intensivists and perfusionists.

Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, anaesthesia records and handover.

Participate in teaching and supervision of junior residents/registrars and other trainees.

Participate in departmental audits, quality-improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality meetings, and clinical research where applicable.

Follow hospital policies, infection-control practices, patient-safety standards and professional/ethical guidelines.

Participate in on-call, night and weekend duties as per departmental roster.
