Key Responsibilities
Manage and supervise the overall functioning of the Casualty/Emergency Department.
Ensure timely assessment and immediate care of all emergency patients.
Coordinate with Emergency Physicians, Consultants, Nurses, and other departments for smooth patient management.
Ensure proper triage and prioritization of patients based on the severity of their condition.
Monitor patient vitals and ensure timely documentation of all emergency interventions.
Ensure availability and readiness of emergency drugs, equipment, crash cart, oxygen, and other consumables.
Conduct regular checks of the Crash Cart, emergency equipment, and medication expiry dates.
Ensure proper maintenance of casualty registers, emergency records, consent forms, and patient documentation.
Coordinate with OT, ICU, NICU, Radiology, Laboratory, Blood Bank, and In-Patient departments whenever required.
Ensure timely admission, transfer, referral, or discharge of emergency patients as per doctor’s advice.
Supervise and allocate duties to casualty nursing staff and support staff.
Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, grooming, discipline, and compliance with hospital policies.
Ensure proper handover and takeover between shifts.
Handle emergency situations and ensure immediate escalation to the concerned Consultant/Unit Head.
Ensure strict compliance with infection control, biomedical waste management, and patient safety protocols.
Ensure proper functioning and availability of ventilators, defibrillators, monitors, suction apparatus, oxygen, and other emergency equipment.
Coordinate with ambulance services and ensure smooth handling of emergency transfers and referrals.
Monitor waiting time and ensure patients receive timely medical attention.
Handle patient and attendant concerns professionally and escalate unresolved issues to the concerned authority.
Ensure compliance with NABH standards, hospital policies, SOPs, and emergency protocols.
Conduct regular audits and maintain records related to emergency care and casualty operations.
Participate in emergency drills, mock codes, training programs, and quality improvement activities.
Ensure adequate staffing and arrange replacement/coverage in case of staff shortage or absenteeism.
Report any incidents, adverse events, medication errors, or operational issues to the concerned authority immediately.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and ensure professional conduct by all casualty staff.
Coordinate with the Billing/Insurance/TPA team to ensure smooth emergency registration and billing processes.
Monitor cleanliness and overall readiness of the Casualty Department at all times.
Prepare and submit required daily/weekly/monthly reports to the Nursing Superintendent/Unit Head.
Ensure all emergency cases are handled efficiently with a focus on patient safety and quality of care.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Nursing Superintendent, Medical Superintendent, or Unit Head.
