About this job

Purpose of the Role

The Chemical Engineer – Technical Sales will develop and convert B2B opportunities for GEM Drytech's industrial drying systems, primarily within the chemical and process industries. The role combines chemical engineering knowledge with consultative sales — understanding customer materials and process requirements, recommending suitable drying solutions, coordinating technical proposals, and supporting negotiations through order closure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate and qualify leads through industry databases, online research, exhibitions, referrals and direct outreach
  • Engage plant heads, process engineers, project teams, procurement personnel and management through calls, presentations and meetings
  • Conduct customer visits, plant surveys and technical discussions to assess feed characteristics, moisture levels, throughput, product-quality requirements and operating conditions
  • Perform preliminary material/energy balances, evaporation-load calculations, utility estimates and basic equipment-selection assessments
  • Recommend suitable drying technologies in coordination with Process, Design, R\&D and Estimation teams
  • Coordinate technical proposals, datasheets, trial plans and commercial offers
  • Support laboratory/pilot drying trials and present technically credible recommendations
  • Manage negotiations, objection handling and purchase-order closure against assigned targets
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, visit reports, opportunity stages and weekly dashboards
  • Track competitor activity, market requirements, pricing trends and upcoming industrial projects
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with R\&D, Design, Production, Quality, Projects, Purchase and Service from enquiry to handover.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech in Chemical Engineering
  • Experience: 3–8 years in chemical or process manufacturing, process equipment, industrial drying, project sales or technical B2B sales
  • Technical fundamentals: Sound knowledge of heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, material and energy balances, moisture removal and evaporation load.
  • Ability to work independently with leadership.
  • Application ability: Capable of interpreting feed properties, inlet and outlet moisture, temperature limits, residence time, throughput, product quality and utility availability
  • Sales readiness: Comfortable with lead generation, cold outreach, plant visits, technical presentations, follow-ups, negotiations and target-based order closure
  • Communication: Strong written and spoken English, with the confidence to explain technical solutions to customers, engineers and management
  • Travel: Willing and able to travel regularly for customer meetings, surveys, trials, exhibitions and project discussions; a valid passport is preferred for international assignments
  • Reporting discipline: Able to maintain complete and accurate CRM data, visit records, opportunity status, forecasts and management reports
  • Professional integrity: Employment history, project exposure, targets and technical claims must be consistent and verifiable

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with one or more industrial dryers, including continuous band, paddle, rotary, flash, fluid-bed, spray, tray or vacuum dryers
  • Industry exposure: Practical involvement with industrial process equipment or manufacturing environments; consumer, retail or non-technical sales profiles will not be suitable
  • Exposure to process design, equipment sizing, PFDs, P\&IDs, equipment datasheets, technical specifications, scale-up and trial reports
  • Knowledge of steam, thermic fluid, hot air, waste heat, heat pumps, compressed air and industrial utility systems
  • Understanding of chemical handling, solvents and VOC abatement, material compatibility, corrosion, hazardous areas, EHS, risk assessment, HAZOP or GMP
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint; working knowledge of AutoCAD, Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD or similar software is advantageous
