Optical Fiber Technician

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and field-oriented Optical Fiber Technician to install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot optical fiber networks for broadband and FTTH (Fiber to the Home) services. The candidate will be responsible for fiber optic cable installation, splicing, fault identification, network restoration, and ensuring reliable connectivity for residential and commercial customers.

Key Responsibilities

Install, route, and maintain optical fiber cables for FTTH/FTTx broadband connections.

Perform fiber optic cable splicing, jointing, termination, and restoration.

Handle single-core fiber splicing and ribbon fiber splicing, wherever required.

Conduct OTDR testing and optical power meter testing to identify fiber faults and signal loss.

Identify and rectify fiber cuts, attenuation issues, and connectivity problems.

Install and maintain fiber distribution boxes, splitters, joint closures, and related network equipment.

Support FTTH/GPON network installations and last-mile connectivity.

Troubleshoot optical signal issues and assist in restoring broadband connectivity.

Inspect fiber routes and network infrastructure to identify damage or potential failures.

Coordinate with field engineers, NOC teams, and Local Cable Operators (LCOs) for fault resolution.

Attend customer installation requests and network maintenance complaints within the assigned area.

Maintain daily work reports, fiber testing records, and fault-resolution details.

Follow safety procedures while working on poles, ladders, rooftops, and outdoor fiber infrastructure.

Technical Skills Required

Practical knowledge of optical fiber cable installation and maintenance.

Hands-on experience in fiber optic splicing and termination.

Knowledge of OTDR, optical power meters, and fiber optic testing tools.

Understanding of FTTH/FTTx, GPON, OLT, ONU/ONT, and optical splitters.

Ability to identify fiber cuts, signal loss, and optical connectivity issues.

Knowledge of fiber joint closures, distribution boxes, and cable routing.

Basic understanding of broadband connectivity and network troubleshooting.

Good communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

Educational Qualification

ITI / Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Telecommunications, or a related technical field is preferred.

Candidates with relevant hands-on experience in optical fiber installation and maintenance may also be considered.

Experience Required

Preferred

1–3 years of experience in optical fiber, FTTH/FTTx, ISP, or telecom operations.

Candidates with practical experience in fiber splicing, OTDR testing, and fault rectification will be preferred.

Experience working with an internet service provider or broadband company will be an added advantage.

Number of fiber installations and maintenance tasks completed.

Fiber fault identification and restoration time.

First-time fault-resolution rate.

Quality of fiber splicing and termination.

Compliance with service-level agreements (SLAs).

Accuracy of daily reports and maintenance records.

Adherence to safety procedures and customer service standards.

Job Requirements

Willingness to travel within the assigned service area.

Ability to work in field conditions and handle fiber installation tools and testing equipment.

Flexibility to attend urgent fiber faults and service interruptions when required.

Good discipline, punctuality, teamwork, and customer-handling skills.
