Job Description
Agronomist / Farm Production Manager

Department: Agriculture Location: Farm location, Delhi NCR / surrounding region Experience: Minimum 1 year of practical farming experience, including at least one complete crop season on a farm Employment Type: Full-time; daily on-site presence required

About the Role

We are building a farm-to-consumer fresh produce venture focused on seasonal vegetables grown using natural and sustainable cultivation practices.

We are looking for a dedicated, hands-on Agronomist / Farm Production Manager to take end-to-end responsibility for farm production. The role involves planning and managing the complete crop cycle, guiding farm workers, addressing crop-related issues, maintaining yield and quality standards, and coordinating harvesting and SKU-wise packing in line with customer orders.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about natural farming, comfortable working directly in the field, and capable of balancing agricultural best practices with commercial production requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Crop Planning and Production Management

Prepare seasonal crop plans based on climate, soil conditions, market demand, and farm capacity.

Develop crop-wise cultivation schedules covering seed selection, sowing, transplanting, irrigation, nutrient application, intercultural operations, and harvesting.

Manage the complete crop cycle and stagger sowing to ensure a consistent supply of seasonal produce.

Estimate expected yields, harvest timelines, and crop availability.

Natural Farming and Crop Health

Implement natural and sustainable cultivation practices in line with the venture's growing standards.

Manage soil health, composting, irrigation, nutrient requirements, and the efficient use of farm inputs.

Regularly monitor crops for pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and other production issues.

Diagnose crop-related problems and recommend timely, practical, and cost-effective corrective measures.

Maintain records of inputs and cultivation practices to support traceability and consistent quality.

Farm Worker Management

Guide and supervise farmers, helpers, and farm workers in daily agricultural activities.

Allocate work, explain cultivation methods, and ensure tasks are completed on schedule.

Train workers in crop handling, harvesting practices, hygiene, and the responsible use of farm inputs.

Identify operational gaps and ensure accountability for farm activities.

Yield, Quality and Cost Management

Monitor crop performance, yield, input consumption, crop losses, and produce quality.

Improve productivity while minimising avoidable input costs and wastage.

Compare actual production against planned yields and investigate deviations.

Maintain crop-wise records of costs, yields, losses, and harvest quantities.

Harvesting, Sorting and SKU-wise Packing

Plan harvesting based on crop maturity, quality standards, and confirmed customer orders.

Estimate harvestable quantities and coordinate produce availability with the operations team.

Supervise sorting, grading, weighing, and packing according to defined SKUs and order quantities.

Ensure hygiene, freshness, accurate weights, and proper handling of produce.

Track harvested, packed, rejected, and unsold quantities to minimise post-harvest losses.

Reporting and Coordination

Maintain daily farm activity reports and share weekly crop progress updates.

Communicate crop risks, expected harvest volumes, input requirements, and resource needs to management.

Coordinate with procurement, packing, and delivery teams to align production with demand.

Recommend improvements in cultivation methods, crop selection, productivity, and farm profitability.

Required Qualifications and Experience

A degree or diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field is preferred.

Minimum one year of practical farm experience involving natural farming practices, including at least one complete growing season.

Hands-on understanding of seasonal vegetable cultivation, preferably in open-field farming.

Genuine interest in natural farming, soil health, and sustainable agriculture.

Ability to identify common crop problems and recommend appropriate solutions.

Experience in managing farm labour, maintaining crop records, and planning farm activities.

Willingness to work in the field and maintain a daily on-site presence.

Personal Attributes

Dedicated, responsible, and passionate about farming.

Practical, observant, and proactive in solving problems.

Comfortable guiding farm workers and taking ownership of outcomes.

Cost-conscious, organised, and focused on quality and productivity.

Willing to learn, experiment responsibly, and continuously improve farming practices.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Performance will be assessed based on the following parameters

Crop-plan adherence.

Marketable yield.

Produce quality.

Input cost per kilogram.

Crop losses.

Harvest forecast accuracy.

On-time availability of produce.

Packing accuracy.

Worker productivity.

Role Expectations

The individual is expected to take end-to-end ownership of farm production outcomes, rather than limiting their role to providing technical recommendations. This includes ensuring effective crop planning, timely execution of farm activities, consistent produce quality, efficient resource utilisation, and alignment between farm production and customer requirements.
