ABOUT THE ROLE

MKCRP Asia Private Limited is looking for a skilled Powder Coating Operator to carry out surface preparation, powder application, curing, inspection, and finishing of metal components used in cleanroom products and associated project work. The candidate will be responsible for consistent coating quality, following approved process parameters, minimizing defects and powder wastage, maintaining equipment, and complying with workplace safety and housekeeping standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Surface Preparation \& Pre-Treatment

  • Inspect metal components for oil, grease, dust, rust, burrs, weld marks, and other surface defects before coating.
  • Carry out approved cleaning, degreasing, surface preparation, and pre-treatment processes according to material and job specifications.
  • Ensure components are properly prepared and dry before powder application.
  • Identify surface defects or contamination and inform the supervisor before proceeding.

Powder Coating Application

  • Operate powder coating equipment, spray guns, control units, and booth systems as trained and authorized.
  • Select the approved powder type, colour, and finish as per job card, drawing, sample, or production instruction.
  • Monitor approved process settings such as gun voltage/current, powder flow, air pressure, gun distance, and application technique as applicable to the equipment.
  • Apply powder evenly to achieve the specified coverage, including edges, corners, and difficult-to-reach areas.
  • Avoid excessive coating, thin spots, uneven finish, contamination, and powder wastage.

Curing Oven \& Process Control

  • Load and arrange components safely in the curing oven without damaging the parts or coating.
  • Follow the powder manufacturer’s approved curing schedule, including required part-metal temperature and time, as applicable.
  • Monitor oven temperature and process cycle; record readings where required.
  • Ensure adequate cooling and safe handling before inspection, packing, or further assembly.
  • Report temperature variation, oven alarms, ventilation issues, or process abnormalities promptly.

Quality Inspection \& Defect Control

  • Inspect coated components for colour consistency, gloss/texture, coverage, adhesion, pinholes, orange peel, runs, bubbles, scratches, and other visible defects.
  • Use approved gauges or test methods for coating thickness and adhesion checks where required and trained.
  • Segregate rejected or suspect parts and coordinate rework or corrective action with Quality and Production.
  • Maintain first-piece, in-process, and final inspection records as required.
  • Protect finished surfaces from scratches, impact, moisture, and contamination during handling and storage.

Production \& Material Handling

  • Complete assigned coating jobs according to production priorities and delivery schedules.
  • Verify job cards, quantities, component identification, colour codes, and coating specifications before starting work.
  • Coordinate with fabrication, Stores, Quality, and assembly teams to ensure smooth material flow.
  • Track powder consumption, rejected parts, rework, and coating wastage; support efforts to reduce scrap.
  • Handle coated and uncoated parts carefully and maintain proper segregation.

Equipment Care \& Routine Maintenance

  • Perform routine checks and cleaning of spray guns, hoses, powder feed system, booth, filters, recovery system, and related equipment as assigned.
  • Keep the booth and work area clean to prevent colour contamination and coating defects.
  • Report equipment faults, damaged hoses, blocked nozzles, filter issues, earthing problems, or unusual operating conditions.
  • Carry out only authorized operator-level maintenance and follow isolation procedures where applicable.

Safety, PPE \& Housekeeping

  • Use required PPE and follow company safety procedures for powder handling, compressed air, electrical equipment, ovens, and hot components.
  • Follow dust-control, ventilation, housekeeping, and fire-prevention requirements for powder coating environments.
  • Maintain effective grounding/earthing of equipment and components as per site procedures.
  • Keep powder containers closed and labelled; follow approved storage, spill-cleanup, and waste-disposal practices.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, near misses, spills, or fire hazards.

MANDATORY TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Practical experience in powder coating or industrial metal finishing.
  • Understanding of surface preparation, powder application, and curing processes.
  • Ability to identify common coating defects and maintain consistent finish quality.
  • Basic understanding of coating thickness, colour matching, and process records.
  • Safe operation of powder coating equipment and curing ovens.

PREFERRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • Experience coating sheet-metal parts, modular panels, doors, cabinets, frames, or fabricated metal components.
  • Knowledge of pre-treatment systems, powder recovery, booth cleaning, and colour change procedures.
