Agniveer (Army, Navy, Air Force)

Under the Agnipath scheme young people join the Army, Navy or Air Force for four years as Agniveers. After four years about a quarter may be selected for regular service; others leave with a lump-sum Seva Nidhi package. Training and service are full-time and anywhere in India.

Study

Army GD: 10th pass (min marks set in notification); tradesmen, clerk, technical have other rules. Navy and Air Force: 12th (subject rules vary).

Height, chest and weight standards vary by region (about 160-170 cm for men). Unmarried at enrolment.

Pay

How to prepare

  • Army 1.6 km run: under 5 min 30 sec gets top marks, over 5 min 45 sec disqualifies. Check the official notice
  • Practise pull-ups (at least 6 for qualifying marks), zig-zag balance and 9 ft ditch.
  • Online exam is on basic maths, science, GK and reasoning; take mock tests.
  • Keep eyes, ears and teeth healthy; many fail the medical on these.

Mistakes people make

  • Missing the rally date after passing the online exam.
  • Carrying fake or wrong domicile/caste documents to rally.
  • Overtraining just before rally and getting injured.
