State Clerk and Group C (State Selection Boards)

States hire clerks, assistants and other Group C staff through their own boards: UPSSSC (UP), BSSC (Bihar), MPESB (MP), RSSB (Rajasthan). Maharashtra uses MPSC and department exams.

How to prepare

  • In UP pass UPSSSC PET first; in Rajasthan pass the CET of the right level; without these you cannot apply.
  • If the post needs typing, practise on a computer to the speed in the rules (Hindi Mangal/Kruti Dev layout as the board specifies).
  • State general knowledge (history, geography, schemes of your state) carries heavy marks.
  • Revise arithmetic, reasoning and the state language grammar with timed practice.
  • Read the post-wise eligibility; some clerk posts need CCC or another computer certificate.

Mistakes people make

  • Letting the PET/CET score expire before the recruitment form.
  • Applying for clerk-typist without the typing certificate the rules need.
  • Using a domicile or caste certificate from another state for reserved benefits.
  • Filling post preferences without reading pay and posting.
In Maharashtra Maharashtra Group C is now largely through MPSC combined Group C exams; some departments use TCS/IBPS exams. Clerk-typist posts need government typing certificate (GCC-TBC) and MS-CIT. Check the official notice
