SSC GD recruits General Duty constables for central armed police forces: BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, SSF, and Riflemen for Assam Rifles. The work is guarding borders, airports, industries and internal security, often far from home. It is a permanent central government job.

10th pass.

Age

18-23 (cut-off date in notification). OBC +3, SC/ST +5 years.

Height men 170 cm, women 157 cm (lower for ST and some hill regions); men chest 80 cm with 5 cm expansion.

How selection works

  1. SSC OTR and online application
  2. Computer-based exam
  3. Physical efficiency test (PET) and physical standard test (PST)
  4. Detailed medical exam
  5. Document verification
  6. Final merit and force allocation

Pay

Level 3 (Rs 21,700-69,100) for all posts except Sepoy in NCB, which is Level 1 (Rs 18,000-56,900). ↗

Physical test

Male
Height 170 cm (relaxed for ST and some hill regions); chest 80 cm unexpanded + 5 cm expansion; run 5 km in 24 minutes.
Female
Height 157 cm (relaxed for some categories); run 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes.
Note
Ladakh region has different running standards.

How to prepare

  • The CBT is 10th level: reasoning, general knowledge, elementary maths, English or Hindi.
  • Men must run 5 km in 24 minutes; build up with 3-4 runs a week for months.
  • Women must run 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes; train speed, not just distance.
  • Keep weight in proportion to height; medical checks this.
  • Practise on the SSC-style computer mock interface.

Mistakes people make

  • Not reading the force preference rules.
  • Tattoos in places not allowed for forces.
  • Failing the medical due to eyesight or knock-knee not checked in advance.
