Job Purpose

To provide comprehensive clinical nutrition assessment, therapeutic diet planning, nutritional counselling, and monitoring for inpatients and outpatients across various super-specialty departments. The Senior Dietitian will work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure evidence-based nutritional care and improved patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessment of patients based on medical condition, clinical history, laboratory investigations, nutritional status, and dietary requirements.

Develop individualized therapeutic diet plans for patients across various specialties and critical care units.

Provide specialized nutritional care for patients with Diabetes, Renal disorders, Liver diseases, Cardiac conditions, Gastrointestinal disorders, Oncology, Neurological disorders, Pulmonary conditions, and other complex medical conditions.

Provide nutritional management for patients in ICU, HDU, CCU, transplant, post-operative, and other critical care settings.

Monitor patients' nutritional progress and modify diet plans based on clinical condition and treatment response.

Coordinate with consultants, physicians, nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals regarding patient nutritional requirements.

Counsel patients and caregivers regarding therapeutic diets, lifestyle modification, food choices, and nutritional requirements.

Plan and monitor enteral and oral nutritional support as per clinical requirements and hospital protocols.

Participate in multidisciplinary clinical rounds and case discussions when required.

Review and interpret relevant laboratory and clinical parameters for nutritional management.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation of nutritional assessments, diet plans, counselling, and follow-up.

Supervise and guide junior dietitians and nutrition staff.

Conduct training and educational sessions for dietitians, nursing staff, and other hospital personnel.

Develop and standardize therapeutic diet protocols, diet charts, and patient education materials.

Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection-control practices, food safety standards, and applicable accreditation requirements.

Coordinate with the food production/kitchen team to ensure appropriate preparation and delivery of therapeutic diets.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, research activities, and departmental projects.

Handle complex nutritional cases and provide expert guidance to junior team members.

Maintain professional and ethical standards in all patient interactions.

Leadership & Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise the day-to-day activities of dietitians and nutrition-related staff.

Allocate work and monitor departmental performance.

Mentor and develop junior dietitians.

Review the quality and accuracy of diet counselling and documentation.

Identify training needs and organize continuous professional development activities.

Support the department in implementing new clinical nutrition practices and protocols.

Educational Qualification

M.Sc. / M.Phil. in Food & Nutrition / Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Additional certification in Clinical Nutrition, Critical Care Nutrition, Renal Nutrition, Diabetes Nutrition, or related specialty areas will be an advantage.

Experience

Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in a reputed hospital, preferably a Super Specialty / Multispecialty Hospital.

Prior experience in ICU, critical care, renal, oncology, cardiac, transplant, or other specialty units will be preferred.

Previous supervisory or team-leadership experience is desirable.
