Security Officer for school

A School Security Officer protects students, staff, and school property by monitoring premises, controlling access, and responding to emergencies.

Job Role Overview

• Job Title: School Security Officer / Campus Security Guard
• Role Type: Unarmed or armed K-12/campus safety personnel (distinct from sworn police or School Resource Officers)
• Reports To: School Principal, Director of Safety, or District Administration

Core Responsibilities

• Access Control: Screen all visitors, verify student/staff identification, and manage campus entry points or metal detectors.
• Patrol \& Monitoring: Conduct regular foot or vehicle patrols of school buildings, hallways, parking lots, and grounds.
• Surveillance: Monitor CCTV security cameras, alarm panels, and emergency notification systems.
• Emergency Response: Act as a first responder for campus incidents, medical situations, fights, fires, or lockdowns, coordinating with local police and fire departments.
• Policy Enforcement: Enforce school board rules, supervise student arrival/dismissal, and deter trespassing or vandalism.
• Reporting: Document security breaches, write detailed incident reports, and maintain daily activity logs.

Qualifications \& Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Age \& Authorization: Minimum 18 years old (often 21+ for certain districts) with valid work authorization.
• Licensing \& Training: Valid state security guard card/license, background check, fingerprinting, drug screening, and training in First Aid/CPR.
• Skills: Situational awareness, calm demeanor under pressure, conflict resolution, and strong verbal communication.
