This is not a conventional logistics role limited to managing deliveries for a single company or construction site.

We are building a B2B construction and industrial materials supply business with the objective of serving customers across India.

We are looking for a professional who can build our logistics network from the ground up by onboarding reliable transporters, fleet operators and logistics partners across India, negotiating competitive freight rates, and establishing long-term commercial agreements.

Hands-on experience in pan-India transportation, transporter network development, freight negotiations and bulk material movement is essential.

About the Role

The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and managing a reliable, cost-efficient logistics network to support the movement of TMT bars, structural steel and other construction and industrial materials from manufacturers and distributors to customers across India.

The candidate must be capable of independently developing logistics partnerships, optimising transportation costs and building scalable logistics operations for a growing B2B business.

Key Responsibilities

Pan-India Logistics Network Development

Identify and onboard transporters, fleet operators, logistics companies and regional transport partners across India.

Build a reliable network for full truckload (FTL), part truckload (PTL), and other suitable transportation requirements.

Establish relationships with transporters operating in major steel manufacturing, distribution and consumption markets.

Negotiate and execute transporter agreements, rate contracts and service-level agreements.

Develop backup transporter networks to ensure consistent vehicle availability.

Freight Negotiation & Cost Optimisation

Negotiate competitive freight rates across routes, regions and vehicle categories.

Develop route-wise freight databases and maintain updated transporter rate cards.

Compare transportation quotations and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Calculate landed logistics costs, including freight, loading, unloading, tolls, detention and other applicable charges.

Monitor market freight fluctuations and develop strategies to improve transportation efficiency.

Transportation Planning & Execution

Coordinate vehicle placement, material dispatch, loading, transit and final delivery.

Ensure timely transportation of steel products and other bulk materials from suppliers to customers.

Coordinate with manufacturers, distributors, transporters, customers and internal sales teams.

Track shipments, manage delivery schedules and resolve delays or transit-related issues.

Ensure appropriate documentation, proof of delivery and freight reconciliation.

Supplier & Transporter Management

Evaluate transporter capacity, service quality, reliability, financial stability and geographical coverage.

Establish standard operating procedures for transporter onboarding and performance monitoring.

Negotiate payment terms and maintain commercial relationships with logistics partners.

Monitor transporter performance against agreed delivery timelines, freight rates and service standards.

Address disputes relating to freight charges, transit damage, shortages and delivery delays.

Technology, Reporting & Process Development

Build logistics processes and operational systems from scratch.

Maintain daily MIS reports covering vehicle placement, dispatches, freight costs, transit status and delivery performance.

Develop route-wise transportation cost benchmarks and transporter performance reports.

Support digital integration of logistics partners with the company's B2B platform.

Identify opportunities to improve shipment visibility, route planning and operational efficiency.

Required Experience & Skills

2–7 years of hands-on experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain or freight management.

Experience developing and managing transporter networks across multiple Indian states.

Strong knowledge of full truckload transportation, bulk cargo movement and commercial freight negotiations.

Experience in steel, cement, construction materials, industrial goods or other heavy-material logistics preferred.

Established relationships with transporters and fleet operators across multiple regions will be an advantage.

Understanding of freight costing, route planning, vehicle availability, loading and unloading, and delivery documentation.

Strong negotiation, analytical, coordination and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in MS Excel and logistics MIS reporting.

Ability to build logistics operations independently in a new business environment.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Number of verified transporters and logistics partners onboarded across India.

Competitiveness of negotiated freight rates.

Vehicle availability and on-time dispatch performance.

On-time delivery rate and shipment fulfilment reliability.

Reduction in freight costs and avoidable transportation expenses.

Transporter performance, documentation accuracy and dispute resolution.

Expansion of route coverage and logistics capacity.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a hands-on logistics professional who can build a pan-India transportation network, establish strong transporter relationships, negotiate competitive freight rates and create reliable logistics operations for a growing B2B materials supply business.

Candidates who have worked with steel, infrastructure materials, industrial supply or large-scale logistics companies and have independently developed transporter networks will be preferred.
