NTPC means Non-Technical Popular Categories: office and station jobs in railways. The undergraduate (12th pass) posts include junior clerk, accounts clerk, trains clerk and commercial-cum-ticket clerk. The graduate posts include station master, goods train manager, senior clerk and ticket supervisor.

Study

Undergraduate posts: 12th pass. Graduate posts: any degree.

Age

Undergraduate posts 18-30 and graduate posts 18-33 in the normal rule; recent cycles gave extra years, so read the current CEN. OBC-NCL +3, SC/ST +5. Check the official notice

Also

Typing in English or Hindi is needed for typist posts. Station master and train manager posts have strict eyesight standards.

Pay

How to prepare

  • Mathematics and reasoning decide the cut-off; practise daily with a timer.
  • General awareness includes railways, current affairs, history, geography, polity.
  • If aiming for clerk posts, start typing practice early (the test uses a computer keyboard).
  • Station master aptitude test (CBAT) has no negative marking but a minimum T-score in each part; practise sample aptitude tests.

Mistakes people make

  • Filling post preferences carelessly; preference order decides your final post.
  • Ignoring the medical standard of the preferred post.
  • Applying to two RRBs.
